9 Ways to Celebrate Earth Day this Year

Ready to celebrate Earth Day this year? Here are 9 fun and easy ways to get started! From starting a recycling program at your office to planting a garden, there’s something for everyone. So get ready to green your life and help make the world a better place!

Plant a Tree

There are many things you can do to celebrate Earth Day, but one of the most impactful things you can do is plant a tree. Trees help to clean the air, filter water, and provide homes for wildlife. They also help to combat climate change by absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. And, of course, trees are simply beautiful to look at. So go out and celebrate Earth Day by giving back to the planet in a truly profound way – plant a tree.

Try Composting

One of the best things you can do for the environment is to learn how to compost. Composting is a great way to reduce your waste, and it’s also great for your garden. Not sure how to get started? Here are a few tips:

First, find a spot in your yard that gets some sun and is away from any water sources. Then, build a simple compost bin out of wood or wire mesh. You’ll need to fill it with organic material like food scraps, leaves, and grass clippings. Be sure to mix it up every now and then to help speed up the decomposition process.

Once you have your bin set up, start adding your organic waste. You’ll need to turn it regularly to aerate it, and eventually you’ll have nice, rich compost that’s perfect for fertilizing your garden. So why not start composting today? Our ultimate guide to composting can give you a boost. It’s a great way to help the environment – and your plants will thank you for it!

Drive Less

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, transportation is responsible for 28 percent of all greenhouse gas emissions in the United States. And while some of those emissions come from commercial shipping and aviation, the majority come from good ol’ cars and trucks.

So, this Earth Day, why not ditch your car for a day (or forever)? Walking, biking, and taking public transportation are all great ways to reduce your carbon footprint. Or, if you just can’t live without your car, try carpooling with friends or coworkers. Not only will you be helping the environment, but you might just make some new friends along the way.

And if you’re really feeling ambitious, why not join one of the “day without cars” protests that have been popping up in South American countries? In September of last year, Bolivians took to the streets to protest government plans to build a highway through a protected rainforest. And in January of this  year, Colombians joined them with a “car-free day” of their own. So if you’re feeling inspired, get out there and make some noise!

Start a Recycling Program

Want to do something big for Earth Day? Why not start a recycling program at your office, school, or place of worship? It’s easier than you might think – all you need is a few dedicated volunteers and some education on what can and cannot be recycled.

Recycling programs are great for the environment, but they’re also great for building community. So gather up your friends and see what you can do to reduce waste in your area. You might just be surprised at how much of a difference you can make.

Use Less Water

Earth day is a time to reflect on our impact on the environment and what we can do to make a difference. One way to celebrate earth day is by using less water. Excessive water use is bad for the environment, contributing to water pollution and stressing the water supply. There are many ways to use less water, and some of them are even fun! For example, take shorter showers, water your plants with recycled water, and use a broom instead of a hose to clean your sidewalk. With a little creativity, using less water can be easy and even enjoyable. So let’s all do our part to protect the planet by using less water this earth day.

Support Renewable Energy

One easy way to celebrate Earth Day is by supporting renewable energy. There are many ways to do this, but one of the simplest is to make the switch to green energy at home. This can be as simple as buying a few solar-powered gadgets or investing in a wind turbine. And it’s not just good for the planet—it’s also good for your wallet. Renewable energy is becoming increasingly affordable, and it’s estimated that switching to green energy could save the average household hundreds of dollars per year. Not only that, but supporting renewable energy is also an investment in our future. As we transition to a low-carbon economy, renewable energy will become increasingly important. By supporting renewable energy now, we can help to ensure a brighter future for generations to come. So this Earth Day, let’s all do our part to support the transition to a green economy.

Shop Locally

Anyone who’s ever gone on a shopping spree knows the feeling of excitement that comes with a new purchase. But what’s even more exciting is when that purchase helps the environment. By shopping locally, you can celebrate Earth Day every day. When you buy from local businesses, you’re supporting farmers and manufacturers who use sustainable practices. You’re also helping to reduce pollution and traffic, since goods don’t have to travel as far to reach your community. Plus, you’re getting fresher food and products that are made to last. Check out the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Local Food Directory to get started! So next time you’re feeling the urge to shop, think about how your purchase can help make the world a better place. Your wallet—and the earth—will thank you.

(Environmental) Knowledge is Power

Earth day is a day to celebrate our planet, and what better way to do that than by educating ourselves about the environment and climate change?
